New Program Gets You Back on Your Feet Faster

Learn How Two Orthopedic Institute Patients Returned to the Activities they Love with DASH

He’d been active all his life, so when arthritis was limiting his activities, Stephen Oriold decided to do something about it. But nothing he tried worked, until he sought help from Doylestown Hospital orthopedist Thomas Vikoren, MD, who introduced Stephen to the DASH (Doylestown Accelerated Surgical Healing) program.

"As soon as he said 'You'll heal a lot quicker', that's all I had to hear," says Stephen.

Stephen returned to his gym one month after his surgery in August. By late September, he went sailing in the Chesapeake. Stephen reports he has had no discomfort during physical activities.

For Stephen, the DASH program came at just the right time – and he was ready for the rewards. "I’m so happy I did it."

Stephen's Story: Doylestown Accelerated Surgical Healing Program

Just a few years ago, severe arthritis in Kimberly Weichel’s right hip was so painful, she had trouble walking. The 50-year-old couldn’t do the things she loved, like hiking or even walking her dog.

No treatments worked, not the injections, acupuncture or physical therapy. When Doylestown Hospital orthopedist Charles Burrows, MD, told Kimberly about the DASH program, she was instantly intrigued.

“I really had a lot of confidence in Dr. Burrows,” she says. “Once I met with him and the orthopedic staff, I knew I was in good hands.”

Four months after her surgery, Kimberly hiked the rugged Glen Onoko Falls in in Jim Thorpe, PA, crossing it off her post-surgery “bucket list.”

“I had been stagnant for so long,” she recalls, “I just really wanted to get moving and live again.”
